Dance Dance Ribbon

Track 01

"A Star or something like it..."

The Sun shone through the single paned window and slowly blended with Ribbon’s face like melting butter on steamed corn. (Hmm I’m hungry) Today is the first school day after the Spring break; Ribbon should be waking up now…

                                …Any time now…

                                                …Oh boy…

“RIBBON!” anguish call from dad, “You’re going to be late for school, and do you hear me?”

Ribbon rolled to the side of her seemingly warm bed then winded out a sigh. After a week long of parties and activity, she was both mentally and physically exhausted.

Creaks and cracks were heard outside of her bedroom, it seems to be the swiping of ones heavy feet against the light peach colored carpet. The brass doorknob rattled loosely as the door opened, but something wouldn’t allow it from moving too far. Well, Ribbon is still sleeping away; she must feel special now; blocking the doorway with her white dressing table and pretty much everything in her room except the kitchen sink laid compiled in one heap.

“Ribbon! Come out this instant” ,shouted the ill-tempered parent. “Don’t make me pull off a plan D!”

Ribbon perked her eyes open 2 times larger than humanly possible, “I’m up! Please whatever you do, don’t do Plan D!” she skidded off to her closet, aimlessly threw on some clothes and furiously cleared the heaping clutter.

“Hey, Ribbon I was only jok—“ Ribbon dashed the door off it’s hinges, nearly crushing her father.

“Humph—“ Mumbled her nearly flattened father.

“I hope you can repair that, dad! ^_^;;” she quickly looked at her watch just briefing the minutes go by, “Oh! It looks like Plan D didn’t work this time, dad! Better luck next time! Gotta go Bye! ^_^”

Ribbon can hear the school bell in the distance. Ohotori is a primary and secondary school, just about one of the biggest schools in the city. Thousands literally thousands of students from all over the country will travel far and wide just to attend this school. It has 4 floors, two campuses and dormitory. It’s far from a traditional K-12 school by its architectural standards. It almost looks futuristic. It had Oval windows, white metallic exterior, and a front window that spans from top to bottom fanning out.

The School doesn’t have uniforms, which is one thing all of us can live without.

Morning was just waking up when Ribbon left the house. The sky looked like a cooked egg on rye. (I’m really hungry) It was quite mild without the crispy wind behind it was oddly calm and quiet. Ribbon continued her daily routine, which was walking to school and hopefully meeting up with some friends on the way.

“Hey Ribbon!” Someone shouted enthusiastically, obviously someone knows her. Ribbon looked beyond her shoulder and saw just about one of her best friend’s on Earth. Ring, blue haired (Braids on either side of her head), blue eyed, tall and tad bit on the skinny side. Ribbon and Ring had been friends for so many years; totally inseparable. Ring’s real name is really Mackenzie, but everyone else calls her Ring, for some odd unexplained reason, “Ring!” Ribbon hugged (let’s use a softer word…) tackled Ring very friendly (Too friendly) and nearly harming her, “I missed ya! ^_^”

Ring said, still winded from the ‘Haven’t seen you in 24 hours hug’, “We just saw each other approximately last night! o_O”

Ribbon patted the back of her head with such embarrassment. (That silly twit.) “Well, it felt like years!” They both resume making their way to school, “uhh well that’s mostly because I fell in a coma. Remember the pop rocks and the soda?  We both looked like we had some kind of hypercritic disease!”

“Is Hypercritic a word?”

A lengthy pause silenced the two.

“Like I said…” Ribbon began.

Ring interrupted Ribbon before she moved on, “Hey! April told me about this game at the arcade!”

Ribbon squealed cheerfully, “Is it the arcade version of YURI’S REVENGE?”

Another pause silenced the two.

“Ribbon….Get your mind out of the gutter. ¬_¬”, Ring continues, “It’s uh called Dance Dance—“
Ribbon happily intrudes, “Dance Dance SAPCE COWS! O_o”

Yet another long, pathetic pause now fills in the gap.

Ring bites her lip in such frustration, “Yeah, Dance Dance Space cows….” She drafts a slight rolling of the eye.

April strode her way through the halls, seeking her classroom. She mused deeply to herself, “If Ribbon joins me and Ring then we can go into the competition!”

What competition you may ask? Just about the most anticipating DDR competition known to all fans. April and Ring have discussed with each other about Ribbon being a part of their group, however Ribbon has zero skills to win the competition.

April stops by her homeroom class: 2-01. She hesitates for a moment and then waits. Just at that moment Ribbon and Ring enter the scene, bright and cheery as always.

“Hey April!” Ring greeted, “So what’s your decision?”

Ribbon pops the question, “What decision? What are you guys talking about?”

April smiles increasingly, “Well…Ring, you should tell her.”

Ring nods and continues, “April and I are forming a group so we can enter the Dance Dance Revolution competition.”

Ribbon looks at the two confusingly, “so…”

“We want you to join! ^_^”

“…Well” her eyes began to wonder, “Sure! As long as there’s food involved! ^_^”

April giggles frivolously, “Yeah, we can just tie a roast beef on a fishing hook and lure you there.”

“Hey April.” Ribbon began, “What’s that dancing game like? It’s like the Britney Spears game right?”

“Egad! No, of course not! o_O We’ll show you the dance machine when we get to the arcade after school.”

Ring happily includes, “We’ll teach you everything!”

Later that day….

Ribbon’s last class ended early thus thought to herself while strolling by the main entrance doors waiting for April and Ring, “I want chips…”

Uh oh… SHE’s COMING! O_O

INTERUPTION BY CLOVER ACK! >_<:
CLOVER! Yes that’s me! I will pop up now and again to chat! (OMG, That’s what Manga artist people do…hmmm *Considers an emotional therapy seminar*) I would like to explain a few things before I move on! For those who are completely lost, DDR or Dance Dance Revolution is a dancing arcade game. You step on these here panels (Up, Down, Left and Right) to the corresponding arrows on the screen! ^_^ Sounds simple eh? But here’s the evil part! You must step on the panels’ right when the blue arrows touch the gray permanent arrows. It’s a game of Rhythm, timing and Skill! Anyone can do it!

Now, about the Arcade in this story is every jaded gamers place to play, y’know!? ^_^ It’s called “Bitmap” …(*Hears Snickering*) SHUT UP! They hold DDR competitions every few months or so. If you win, you get prizes worth a lot o’ dough! April and ring are still too optimistic about teaching Ribbon DDR. I mean the competition is running up fast and Ribbon has no experience, they better get cracking. Cracking Eggs Mwuahahaha! .^^.  Oh yeah one more thing! There are two different ways on entering the competition! Single, where you face head to head with another individual and follow tournament rules.  Group is where one group of two or more plays against another group, in Co-op mode. The group with the highest score wins! These are done in sessions.

Yo! What is up that?

Yeah Whatever!

-Anyway, Bai! ^_~ -

Shortly after the school bell, April and Ring swung around the corner. It’s safe to assume from this point, they’re all leaving right away.

“Ready to go? -_^” April asked, sporting a thumbs up.

Ribbon brushed the bits of hair from the front of her face, “Yeah, this better be good!”

***

At the Bitmap, it was relatively busy as usual; people going this way and people going that way. The line up’s are usually long and very slow, especially if there are new comers questioning everything…EVERYTHING. Luckily there are membership cards that let you in past the line ups. By the inner entrance there were two security guards, about 6 feet tall, with black sunglasses and a suspicious looking F.B.I uniform; one had short black hair, the other blond. April, Ring and Ribbon approached the inner entrance a bit meekly, unsure if the guards would pull something like a bat! O_o A BAT! Noooooo!

………

The two guards watched them cautiously as they tread towards them, “ID Please!”

Ribbon cringed at the guard, “What? They’re just VIDEO GAMES!”

Ring and April flashed their cards without a spoken word.

The security guards acknowledged them and nodded as a suggestion to go in, they hastily looked to Ribbon awfully suspiciously, “What’s your dealing here?”

The two men exchanged glances likewise continued (not to mention talking really loud), “Do you have illegal weapons, Fireworks, Pound cakes and Grapes? We know where you live! WE WATCH YOU 24 HOURS A DAY!”

Ribbon was overwhelmed with anger towards her (oh my! *Sheds a tear*), “I JUST WANNA PLAY VIDEO GAMES! >_<”

                “WHERE’S YOUR CARD?”

April and Ring stand in Silence, “…”

“Oh! Right here! Gee, I guess I almost forgot there! ^_^;” She showed the two guards her shiny card. Feeling quite embarrassed at that!

Interrupting Clover:

(RANTS: “What the Hell was that all about?”

Clover: “Waste of time and laughter my friends! ^_^”

RANTS: “Next Time EDIT!! >_<”

Clover: “I Will!”)

***

Within the Bitmap (*Hears snickering*) SHUT UP! Within the Bitmap, it’s dark and full of commotion all over each corner; there is never a dull moment!

Ring pointed over Ribbon’s shoulder, “see that flashing stage over there?”

Ribbon nodded yes.

                “That’s Dance Dance Revolution! ^_^”

“But, I don’t want to try yet!” Ribbon mumbled meekly. It looked pretty large and flashy.

April took a step up to the stage, “C’mon! C’mon! It’s fun, we’ll teach you. Watch us, Ribbon!”

Ring looked back at Ribbon and smiled, “You don’t have to try if you don’t want to. I was a little scared when I first tried too!”

“M-m-maybe I’ll give it a try…” She mumbled timidly, “I’m going to be fed after this right?”

April giggled, “Of course, silly! ^_^” April motioned her arm to the other part of the stage. “You gotta try your best first!”

Ribbon cautiously boarded the stage; she felt a little silly standing on a flashy stage. What if someone else from the crowd were to laugh at her?

Ribbon asked April all puzzled-like, “What do I do?”

April paused for a moment, figuring out the easiest way to explain this to Ribbon. “Well, you have to step on the arrows when they reach the top of the screen! If you miss too many, you lose.”

“What if you get them all right?”

“Then you pass the stage and then you are graded! E is the lowest and AAA is the highest! It’s simple! You can do it.^_^”

Ring included from the back of the stage, “It’s okay if you lose, you can try again later!”

Ribbon felt a tad more confident now. If her friends can do this no problem, so can she! Or Can she?

April swiped her card through the sensor to start the game, “I’ll use my card to start you off!”

Ring added, “Well, help you out during the song.”

Ribbon pointed to the buttons out in front of her, “Do I use those to choose?”

April nodded in response.

Ribbon pressed the green button then scrolled down the list of songs. The song “Mickey Mouse March” sounded good to her. “I can do this song right?”

“It’s simple.”

The Song was just about to begin; Ribbon was feeling more nervous than previous.

Are you Ready?

“No…” thought Ribbon.

1st Attempt

Ribbon stood stone statue still, and watched not one but TWO arrows pass by the screen!

April hinted to Ribbon, “Um, you were supposed to hit those…”

“What a solid effort…..” Ring sighed. -_-

2nd Attempt

Ribbon shot her right foot down on the right arrow panel with such enormous force that she….actually….damaged it…

*CRACK!*

“WHAAAA?” screeched Ribbon, whose foot is now wedged inside the DDR stage!

Ring and April were shocked beyond belief! o_O;

“Guys! Help me?” suggested Ribbon!

But April and Ring couldn’t move; they were still excessively shocked! O_o

“….Ok, Guys…you can stop now.”

April and Ring are still shocked!

3rd Attempt

Ribbon nodded her head to the rhythm, and tapped her feet to the beat. She‘s finally decided to give it one more good try. She’s got to try harder, she’s just got to! For the sake of being fed!

“You can do it this time! You’ve got potential!” Ring tried her best to encourage Ribbon. It was the only thing she could do.

Are you Ready?

Let’s see what you’ve got!

Ribbon stumbled and staggered from one side to another. She nearly tripped also! But, No! She’s not going to give up. “I MUST BE FED!” She thought.

                April giggled, “Maybe too good…”

Ribbon swung her arms in the air and moved to the groove, “Who’s hot tonight!? Ribbon is Hot tonight!! Whee! This is fun!” ^o^

Stage cleared

“All right!” Ribbon’s excitement went off the wall, “This game is rocks!”

April cheered as Ring leaped over the red/black hand bar to hug Ribbon. -^_^-

All of a sudden…I the narrator and interrupting Clover (Hidden under a bunch of blanket sheets) flew into this happy scene to embrace the large joyous bunch, “MOSH PIT!”
